Day Four - 25.5.06

 

During the Power Failure

The battle of the states started since yesterday evening. The roars and supporters from all the states where gather during the match. While everyone happily supporting their respective team's, suddenly there is "black out" around 4.40 pm. Everyone was so worried that the power failure will last till late evening.

However the organiser, Mr. Cheong Pak Kau made a few phone calls and the electricity came back around 5.00 pm.

Congratulations Mr. Pak Kau for the quick response and effort.

Day Three - 24.5.06

Kam Hing Won The SUKMA Gold Medal for Men's Individual

If yesterday was the day of upsets, today would definitely be the day of challengers. The most awaited matched between the men's finalist, Randy Lim and Kam Hing was drag to five setter. Kam Hing has a better stamina compare to Randy. He outlasted Randy in an interesting battle. Hence, he earn Perak a gold medal.

For the women's final it was a straight easy win for Low Wee Wern. Wee Wern beat her team mate, Nabila 9-2, 9-1, 9-2. Low Wee Wern could be categorized as a player beyond the standard for SUKMA even tough she is still young. Through out the individual events, Nabila gain the most points.

The team events start in the evening.  

 

 
Day Two - 23.5.06

The quarter finals for both men and women took place in the morning. There were no surprises or upsets. However all the top seeds are given a good fight. The expected four men and women marched through to the semi finals.

The semi - finals; however have a different scenario. In the men's event, both of the top seed, Ivan Yuen and Mohd Asyraf were upset.

Chong Kam Hing put up a steady and relax match play. He was keeping his state of mind cool all the way, where Asyraf was push front and back and force to make errors.

The match between Randy Lim and Ivan Yuen would be said as the match of the day. Both players played at a very high intensity of squash. It was an endurance games which test on both players mentally and physically demanding. Randy upset Ivan to make it to the final tomorrow.

For the women match, it is an all Penang final. Low Wee Wern and Nabila Ariffin has no problem to demolish their opponents respectively. It was an easy straight game for both of them.

Currently Penang already confirmed a gold in their hand.

Day One - 22.5.06

"Kompleks Hijau Kuning"

The first day of SUKMA start off well. Thanks to the SRA of Kedah whom did a good job at their new squash centre, Kompleks Hijau Kuning. 

The new centre which consists of five beautiful glass court are still brand new. All the ground work has been done prior to the event.

The day before, there was a team manager meeting. The meeting run smoothly. The quiet and agreeable session, suddenly change when Penang protest against the individual draws. After a few constructive argument the issue has been resolved by the Technical Delegates, Mr. Peter Chee. Everyone left the meeting with a good fighting spirit for the next day.

The matches started in the morning where all the first round matches are played. In the evening the second round matches took place. There were no surprises as the top seeds has no problem in their matches. Most of them marched through breezily.

During the evening match, KL teams received an extra boost when their Chef De Mission came to watch the matches.
