|
I see. So, where
are you based now? |
| Carol : |
In
Auckland, New Zealand. I spar with the men there. It’s good training
for me. |
| |
| |
|
|
Do you have a
coach there? |
| Carol : |
Yeah, I
work with Paul Wright. And also Dave Clark, he’s the national coach of
New Zealand. |
|
| |
|
|
Many girls are
opting Amsterdam as their training base. Were you there before? |
| Carol : |
Nah. It
didn’t occur to me to base myself there. I prefer training at a place
where i’m most comfortable at. I love it in Auckland so, that works
for me. I’m sure that goes for other players as well |
| |
|
|
|
|
| So, do you choose your trips
according |
 |
| to your comfort in
the country? |
| Carol : |
Well,
that matters to me besides |
|
the
points of course, but I do see some of the girls going to places they
dread, to do exhibition matches and promotions to earn a little bit of
money. I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn't use my no. 2 ranking for trips
like that |
| |
|
Why not? Some
sponsors pay really well for appearance. |
| Carol : |
Well,
some......but I wouldn’t leave Auckland for that. I just want to earn
moderately, enough to pay for my house there. |
| |
| |
|
|
Auckland sounds
wonderful. What do you do there besides squash? |
| Carol : |
I do yoga, mountain biking, and I like drinking coffee and reading at
|
| |
different cafes. I’ve probably visited all the cafes in New Zealand! I
do that sometimes as well when I travel. In KL, i enjoy having a drink
at Coffee Bean. |
| |
|
|
Me too! Hey, is
that your most cherished moment? Having a cup of coffee somewhere in
Auckland? |
| Carol : |
Haha. Nah, coffee sessions are all good moments, but the most |
| |
cherished one,
I’d have to say is winning the World Open 2000. I came back from 2
games down to upset Leilani in the finals. That was a memorable win
for me. |
