A well mannered and pleasant guy from Terengganu, he is better
known among friends as ‘Jam’ (pronounced as “jump” without the
‘p’, and definitely not like the fruit preserve). Finishing
secondary school last year in BJSS, he scored 4 As in 2002’s Sijil
Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), science stream, and topped the lot of
BJSS squash players. Mind you, it’s not an easy task to do both
studies and sports, while living miles away from home at a young
age. So......bravo, Jam! I took him and two other players, Fabian
and Shahril, after one of their regular evening training sessions,
to Gloria Jeans, Mt. Kiara for dinner and......ice blends!!! |

In a
club, Terengganu squash club. It’s in a college. They sent invitations
to our school, and we were told to pick a sport. I chose squash, and
then......went to the club to play. |

From Terengganu,
how did you end up in Bukit Jalil? |

Lumut.
Yah, it was the Interstate Junior Camp in Lumut. Casper (former
national junior coach) chose me in the selections, and I was given the
chance to study there. I took it! I even did my UPSR there. I scored 4
As and a B in science. |

Umm......no reason, just for the squash......the interest of squash. |

Was the move to
Bukit Jalil dormitories difficult for you? |

first month was hard! I was not used to the environment. |

For being away
from your family?? |
|

Well......yah,
a bit of that also. I was placed with five other junior squash players
in a dorm. I would have
preferred
less people in the room......more privacy for me. Sometimes, when the
boys were noisy at night, I scolded them. Haha. I think they were
pretty scared of me then. But after the first month, I was
ok.
I didn’t cry like some of my team mates who did. |
