9 July 2006

Today, we have four players in the semi finals and three players won their semi finals match. Wee Wern beat Emma Charley of England 3-1, Wee Nee beat Noran Alaa El Torky of Egypt 3-2 and Kah Wah beat R. Rohrmuller 3-2. Eu Jin lost to Mahesh Mangaonkar of India 3-0. In the Girls U19, Wee Wern has to fight from the first game and she got it through the first game very closely. She won the first 9-6. In the second game, she complained her thigh had some strained and lost in the second 9-0. She did not give up and went in to fight all the way through. It was a very intense game between each other in the third game. Both of them produced very nice touch of volley drops and a very tight length. In the end, saw Emma cannot hang on to the pace of Wee Wern play. And she won the third and fourth game easily compared to first game. She will be playing Annie Au of Hong Kong tomorrow.

In the Girls U15, Wee Nee has a sweet revenge against Noran as Wee Nee lost to her the last meeting. She won the first game in a close fight 10-9. Then Noran makes a comeback to win the second game 9-5. In the third game, I never saw Wee Nee such a good game before. She raced to 7-0 lead and out of sudden her ‘engine’ just shut off. Luckily she managed to regain her focus and won 9-7. In the fourth game, she was down 6-3 before clawed back to level the score to 6-6. There is some referee decision which makes a few bad calls and she lost her focus and lost 9-6 in the fourth game. Later, Sandra told her to play her guts out and give 110%. Thankfully all went well for her as she won the fifth game 9-7.She was 6-3 down. Really delighted to see the Low’s sister in the Finals. (Well Done! “Neenie and Wernie’ - Their nick name in England given by Jamie Hickox)

In the Boys U15, Kah Wah went in as a ‘Dark Horse’. Nobody ever heard of this Perakian before. Who is he? His opponent is about his size but stronger than him. Both of them were hitting the ball so hard even I got problem seeing it. In the first game, he wasn’t concentrating his game as his opponent was blocking him to play a shot and he lost 9-0. In the second game, same situation happened to him and he got a bit upset before regained his composure to win 10-8. In the third game, he was 6-0 down and he start to fight back point by point before losing 9-7. In the third and fourth game, his opponent just ran out of steam and he won it easily 9-3,9-1. Well, Malaysia Boleh! , Perak Also Can!!

In the Boys U13, Eu Jin lost to Mahesh in three games. If Eu Jin is experience enough, he would have won the match. Anyway, it was very good effort from him. This is his first international tournament and hopefully he will get more exposure in future. The rest of the players won their matches respectively. Here are their results. Till then, we see you tomorrow. Selamat Malam!

10 July 2006

Today we have three players playing in the final. It was a cheer for Malaysian camp as Wee Wern delivered Under 19 titles beating Annie Au in 3. Kah Wah and Wee Nee lost to a better player but could have done better. Overall, both of them played well in their own age group. Today, Wee Wern had an easy match against Annie compared to Carmille Serme of France and Emma Chorley of England. She started it off very strong. Good length from both side and superb kill shots at front court. She was controlling the game most of the time and she won 9-3 in 9 minutes. In second game, Annie started to hit the ball well and punished her to dig up the shots at front backhand corner. She was struggling to pick up some of Annie’s shots. Later, Wee Wern starts to regain her composure to win 9-4 in 14 minutes. In the third game, it was very close game this time as Annie would try whatever shots she could and it went in most of the time. Again, Wee Wern have to dug up really deep to punished Annie back to her backhand back corner. Annie could do anything about it and Wee Wern won this game 9-6 in 14 minutes. She was very delighted to win this title as it will boost her confidence and would be getting a good seeding in the Dutch Junior and British Junior Open next year. Below are the results for all our players. We will be going to Amsterdam tomorrow and the tournament will starts on Thursday (13 July). I will bring another latest updates from there. 14 July 2006

Today we have a bad start. Wee Wern lost to Annie Au in 5 in the last 16, Nessrine lost to Noran of Egypt in 5 and Yan Xin lost to 3 in the quarter final respectively. Wee Wern was leading 2-0 before lost the next three games very close. Annie played exceptionally well this time as she controlled the court all the time. She was very confidence to put away the winner shots and Wee Wern has to dig up deep to win a point. Credit must be given to Wee Wern as she showed a matured player throughout the match. She lost to a better player today. As for Nessrine, she was 2-0 down before clawing back to level the score. Unfortunately, she had a cramped during the 5th game and just couldn’t move around the court. Although she lost the match, she shows a fighting spirit and ‘never say die’ attitude. Well played Ness. Yan Xin this time fared a much better game compared to Pioneer Cup. She gave Dipika a wake up call before losing 3-0. What a surprised semi finalist! Azri is in the Semi Final in the Under 15 so as Affeeq in under 13. They will be playing Rohmuller of Germany and Oliver Holland respectively. Rachael is in the semi final beating Kristyna from Czech 3-0. Here are the results for today.
